Boynton Beach, in Palm Beach County, is about 15 miles south of West Palm Beach, 32 miles north of Fort Lauderdale, and 63 miles north of Miami on the Atlantic coast.
The Town of Boynton was formed in 1920 and changed its name to Boynton Beach in 1941, after American Civil War major Nathan S. Boynton, who initially occupied the area in 1894 and began building of the historic Boynton Beach Hotel a year later.
Boynton Beach, like adjacent cities, has benefited from its lush terrain and abundant agricultural output, supplementing its prosperity with a flourishing tourist business focused on its beautiful beaches.
With a population of around 78,000 people, the city of Boynton Beach is the third largest municipality in Palm Beach County.
