Santa Clarita is a city in the County of Los Angeles, California. According to the 2020 census, it is the third-largest city in Los Angeles County and the 17th-largest in California, with a population of 228,673.

It is approximately 30 miles (48 kilometers) northwest of downtown Los Angeles and encompasses 70.75 square miles (183.2 km2) of land in the Santa Clarita Valley along the Santa Clara River.

The City of Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival, held in the spring, celebrates the culture and history of the west, and even includes cowboy poetry.
